About

Algorithms have made everything boring. It all looks the same–social feeds, coffee shops, even human [sic] filter faces. This algorithmic homogeneity kills creativity–what's inspiring about being fed works that come from the same schools of thought, regurgitated from one platform to another, then appropriated by corporate advertising? It's a giant circle jerk of the same aesthetics repackaged as "micro-trends" on a quarterly basis. And we're bored to death.

And if you're here, you're probably thinking that too. So keep thinking...

Because creative opportunity lies in the boredom. Because boredom fueled by discontent can lead to creative breakthroughs–and that's what The Doldrums is all about. We're here to create things we want to see and curate inspiration from outlier perspectives across the contemporary creative landscape. We want to make and share objects that transcend mainstream notions of "aesthetics" and "taste." We want to challenge deeply-rooted systems of thought that oppress our creative pursuits, and throw a wrench in the spokes of the machine that perpetuates all of it. Not for vanity metrics, but to reclaim our autonomy–creative and otherwise.

Ideas born in the depths of creative hell deserve to be realized, and all we want to do is give them the wings to fly out of here –by any means necessary.

If you're feeling disillusioned, doubtful or uninspired; join us –maybe you'll find something here to set yourself free.
